Job Summary

Required Qualifications

• •High school diploma or equivalent
• •Minimum 3 accredited courses towards a certificate in any of the following discipline: horticulture, maintenance, construction, urban forestry, natural areas
• •Minimum 3-5 years of experience working in general construction, landscaping, maintenance work
• •Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and an annual driver's abstract in excellent standing which is to be submitted annually
• •Successful completion of WFN's workplace physical demands assessment
• •Knowledge of computer basics (Word and Excel) as well as other electronic devices
• •Must be mechanically inclined
• •Occupational First Aid Level I

• •Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation
• •Ability to work flexible hours, including shift work, overtime and emergency call outs
• •Works in all types of weather
• •Knowledge of plan reading, pipe locating, and map reading (paper and digital)
• •Being part of the rotating on-call schedule is required for this position which includes responding to after hour calls within a 20 minute response time and takes corrective action as required
• •Fills in the Supervisory role as requested to cover holiday and sick leave
• •Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation laws, policies, standards and procedures and as directed by the Health and Safety (HSE) Focus
• •Follows the health, safety and environmental program and protocols, and buys into the strict safety culture of the industry
• •Demonstrates sound understanding of hazard identification, assessment and control
• •Demonstrates effective basic investigative and reporting skills: identifies lessons learned and works toward continuous HSE improvement
• •Clearly and consistently communicates the importance of and commitment to HSE: ensures all workers are aware of HSE requirements and protocols
• •Communicates relative corrective actions to assigned staff

Desired Qualifications

• •Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
• •Strong working knowledge of machines and tools and previous experience operating and maintaining, various pieces of equipment such as small tractors, chainsaws, jackhammers, compressors, tamping machines, snow blowers, weed eaters, lawnmowers, saws, a variety of hand tools, etc
• •Valid Class 1 or Class 3 BC Driver's License with Air Brake endorsement
• •Hydro-vac experience
• •Construction Industry training in project management, supervision and safety
