Job Summary
Coordinate and schedule work crews for routine maintenance, emergency call-outs, and capital projects across streets, parks, forestry, and solid waste operations. Oversee contractors to ensure projects meet specifications, timelines, and budgets while integrating citizen complaints into weekly schedules. Provide safety training, evaluate employees, and manage administrative duties including bid preparation, permit reviews, and grant applications. Act as Director in absence and present to City Council as needed. Requires valid Michigan CDL-B with tanker endorsement, OSHA 30-hour certification, and ability to work long hours including nights, weekends, and holidays during on-call rotations.
Required Qualifications
- At least five years of related experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Customer service experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Experience working within a union or supervising union employees
- Possess and maintain a valid Michigan CDL-B with tanker endorsement
- Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in roads, building, and parks maintenance and minor repair
- Familiarity with traffic signal maintenance and repair
- Familiarity with the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MMUTCD)
- Certified to operate an aerial lift
- Certified to work in a confined space
- OSHA 30-hour certification
- Must be able to safely traverse active construction sites in all weather conditions
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move at least 50 pounds
- Ability to work long hours as emergency circumstances arise, including night, weekends, and holidays
Desired Qualifications
- ISA Arborist certification preferred
- Able to obtain aerial lift certification within 3 months
- Able to obtain confined space certification within 3 months
- Able to obtain OSHA 30-hour certification within 3 months
