Job Summary
Operate heavy equipment and manage traffic control zones by setting up, maintaining, and removing channelizing devices and signs per Federal, State, and Local guidelines. Coordinate onsite Weld County personnel, control vehicular traffic using hand signals and a STOP/SLOW paddle, and transport equipment and staff across work sites. Provide on-the-job training to flaggers, review temporary traffic control plans, and use mobile data entry devices for administrative tasks. Stand 8–12 hours while performing manual labor, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally moving up to 70 pounds. Respond to emergency events and inclement weather operations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Two years' experience as an equipment operator with working knowledge of tools and light and heavy equipment necessary for maintenance activities
- Valid Colorado Class A CDL license with tanker endorsement required or ability to obtain license within specified time frame agreed upon hire
- Ability to be MSHA certified
- Working knowledge of road and bridge construction with demonstrated proficiency in two of the following areas: front end loader, tandem axle truck, paint truck, and skid steer
- Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situation with the public, subordinates, and supervisors
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10's and 100's
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and make appropriate day to day decisions without supervisory guidance to perform assigned tasks
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to stand 8-12 hours
- Good manual dexterity
- Courteous, helpful attitude when contact with the public is required
- Ability to follow instructions from senior employees
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office products and use of mobile entry devices in the field
- Ability to write, read and comprehend single instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public
- Ability to respond to and work extraordinary hours during emergency events
- Ability to assist with snow and other inclement weather operations
- Ability to comply with all policies and standards
- Ability to pass a background check prior to employment start date
- Ability to pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date
- Ability to pass a physical demands evaluation post offer screen compatible to this position
- Ability to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift, move and/or pull 50 plus pounds up to 70 pounds
