Job Summary

Maintain city grounds and buildings by mowing, trimming, and planting landscapes; design, install, and repair irrigation systems and backflow devices. Operate chainsaws, backhoes, trucks, and tractors while making repairs to fences, walkways, and mechanical equipment. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides as designated; shovel snow, spread ice-melt, and clear storm drains during inclement weather. Remove debris, graffiti, and dead trees to keep facilities clean. Work with maintenance managers and crew leaders to respond to city services and natural disaster events.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Two (2) years related experience and/or training
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Some positions require a commercial driver's license
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or greater
