Job Summary
Conduct daily outside maintenance operations including roads, drainage, landscape, cemetery upkeep, snow removal, and fleet grounds care. Operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, tractors, and dump trucks while performing carpentry, minor repairs, and asset construction. Manage traffic control with barricades and warning lights in high-traffic or adverse weather conditions. Lead hazard assessments, conduct safety inspections, and ensure all team members adhere to strict health and safety protocols. Respond to after-hour emergency calls within a 20-minute window as part of a rotating on-call schedule. Complete assigned tasks on time and on budget while maintaining confidentiality and delivering excellent service to internal and external clients.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2-3 years experience in a civil or industrial construction and/or maintenance environment
- 2-3 years experience working with hand tools, power tools and/or heavy equipment
- Criminal record check with results acceptable to WFN
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and an annual driver's abstract in excellent standing which is to be submitted annually
- Successful completion of WFN's workplace physical demands assessment
- Knowledge of computer basics (Word and Excel) as well as other electronic devices
- Ability to work outside in any type of weather
- Willingness to work evenings weekends and holidays
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of Westbank First Nation
- Occupational First Aid Level I
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate
- Air Brakes Endorsement
- Traffic Control Ticket
- Skidsteer Ticket
- Chainsaw Certification
- Snow Plow Operator Certification
- S100 Basic Fire Suppression and Safety Course
- Being part of the rotating on-call schedule is required for this position which includes responding to after hour calls within a 20-minute response time and takes corrective action as required
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with Indigenous communities considered an asset
- Knowledge of safe work procedures and understanding safety culture is considered an asset
- Valid Class 1 or Class 3 BC Driver's License
- Landscape Horticulture Certificate
- Sports Field Maintenance Certificate
- Certified Irrigation Technician Level 1 and/or 2
- Small Engine Repair Certificate
- At least 3 accredited courses towards a discipline
