Job Summary
Operate heavy equipment including loaders, trucks, backhoes, and power tools like mowers and chainsaws. Perform manual labor for water and sewer maintenance, street repair, and landscape care, including tree pruning, snow control, and underground infrastructure work. Maintain accurate work records and data while adhering to federal drug and alcohol testing requirements. This full-time position with an hourly rate of $24.07–$29.08 requires a valid driver's license and ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures. Candidates must reside within 25 minutes of Oak Park and obtain a CDL Part B endorsement within 180 days.
Required Qualifications
- Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license
- Ability to obtain a CDL Part B with Air Brake & Tanker endorsements within nine months of hire
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 90 pound loads
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures
- Ability to tolerate exposure to dust, dirt, grease, fuel, chemicals and lubricants
- Ability to stoop, bend, climb trees, go into underground vaults and pits with restricted movement
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
- Ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructions
- Knowledge of use of equipment and tools used in Public Works practices
- Must live and maintain residency no more than 25 minutes from the City of Oak Park
- May be required to obtain Michigan license for pesticide application
- Valid driver's license
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) test
- Must be able to obtain a CDL Permit and Written Test with a passing grade within 90 days of hire
- Must be able to obtain a CDL Part B with Air Brakes & Tanker Endorsement within 180 days of completion of the CDL Permit and Written Test
- Must be available for all dates of assignment
- Must be able to work overtime when called in to work
- Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position
