Job Summary

Acquire and apply job skills to provide a safe and secure environment for improving community health. Make security checks of facilities during non-operating hours and control patient and visitor traffic in the Emergency Department. Respond to security breaches when detected or dispatched, and enforce applicable federal, state, and local laws as they relate to public safety. Operate patrol vehicles safely while controlling pedestrian and vehicular traffic and enforcing parking regulations. Respond to calls for service in accordance with established priorities. Maintain compliance with vehicle use policies and complete all required organizational and departmental training programs. Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Public interactions work experience
  • Driver's License in applicable state
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment
  • Basic Security Officer Certification through the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment
  • Valid driver's license
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Motor Vehicle records verification
  • Satisfactorily completes all required organizational and departmental basic, field, and in-service training programs including the Corporate Public Safety Training Plan
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing
  • Ability to accurately receive and transmit information by radio and telephone
  • Ability to translate observations and information into legible, complete, and accurate reports
  • No criminal record
  • Maintains compliance with the UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper Vehicle Use Policy
  • Immediately notifies Director of Public Safety or Public Safety Manager of any and all charges relating to the operation of a motor vehicle and/or criminal complaint
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly
  • Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Work experience in related field (law enforcement, military, or security management)
  • Previous healthcare security experience
  • Security, law enforcement or military experience
