Public Safety Officer - Part-time

Job Summary
Respond to calls for service, monitor telephone and radio systems, and provide constant foot patrol to the entire campus. Address requests for service, opening/closing of facilities, parking requests, and emergency-based assignments while operating fire and burglar alarm systems. Conduct safety hazard checks, security checks, and maintain knowledge of campus buildings, floor plans, and safety manuals. Complete incident reports, email correspondence, and parking registration using computer skills. Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and department members to enforce campus policies and emergency processes. This part-time role requires rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather coverage. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver's license, and possess minimum two years of security or law enforcement experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of 2 years of security or law enforcement related work experience
- Ability to pass a background check
- Working knowledge of basic security techniques
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, Salem students, staff, administration, and community
- Subject to random drug testing
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Bend, squat, stand, kneel, walk, run, crawl, and climb
- Regularly ascend/descend stairs
- Walk for long distances and sit for varying lengths of time
- Reach above shoulders, handle keys/tools/objects, push, pull, carry, or lift objects over 40 lbs
- Work may necessitate accessing and working in confined spaces or high spaces
- Must be physically able to perform tasks appropriately
- Must be physically able to operate the equipment required to perform duties
- Work in an indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing temperatures
