Job Summary
Conduct general law enforcement at government campuses, including arresting, transporting, and booking individuals into custodial facilities. Provide court security and bailiff services, while offering executive protection for county council members, elected officials, judges, and employees. Monitor county infrastructures and facilities to ensure citizen safety, performing comprehensive security vulnerability assessments. Transition between law enforcement and client-focused community policing as situations demand. This entry-level academy position begins March 1st, 2027, with no prior experience or training required. Candidates must be Utah residents, U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens, and pass the NPOST exam and physical fitness test. The Sheriff's Office offers full benefits, including tuition reimbursement, medical insurance, and a uniform allowance.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizen or have lived in the country for at least five years and have legal authorization to work
- At least 21 years of age by the date of hire
- Resident of the State of Utah at the time of hire
- Valid Utah Driver's license at time of hire
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- No disqualifying criminal history
- Passing NPOST score of 70% or higher
- Pass the PT Test
- Vertical Jump = 14.5 inches
- Push-Up = 14
- Isometric Plank = 30 seconds
- 1.5 Mile Run = Under 16 minutes and 11 seconds
- Pass a Medical/Physical Evaluation
- Pass a Drug screen
