Job Summary

The intern/extern will promote fundamental human rights in the digital economy by creating and executing strategies to promote the open internet, balanced intellectual property rights, and communications competition. Responsibilities include collaborating on strategy and advocacy to shape laws and regulations, drafting legal/advocacy documents, coordinating with government relations and communications staff on Capitol Hill and with the FCC, developing expertise in national internet policy issues, and participating in coalition work and public outreach. The program typically lasts about 10 weeks, with internship funding often provided by the sponsoring school or another program, and externship length determined by the sponsoring school.

Required Qualifications

  • Current law students or graduate students
  • Strong interest in public interest technology policy
  • Demonstrated interest in policy making process — Congress, executive branch, FCC, agencies
  • Interest in open internet policy, balanced intellectual property rights, and communications competition
  • Internships generally 10 weeks; externships may be for school credit; funding may be sought for interns
