Job Summary
Conduct intake screenings, draft client affidavits, and prepare applications for asylum, deportation, and trafficking survivors. Research case law, draft legal briefs, and file USCIS forms while communicating directly with clients and court respondents. Support the LGBTQ Immigrant Rights Initiative and Counter-Trafficking Project by gathering country conditions and managing multiple projects with strict deadlines. Assist in-person at the Chicago Immigration Court Helpdesk providing legal orientations to unrepresented respondents. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required, with hybrid or remote work options available for Fall 2026.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in Law School
- Fluency in spoken and written Spanish
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time
- Ability to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States
Desired Qualifications
- Fluency in a relevant second language
- Experience working with trauma survivors
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Lived experiences in immigrant communities
- Membership in marginalized communities
- Background from communities underrepresented in the legal profession
- Significant interest in immigration issues
- Limited prior experience (for candidates with significant interest in immigration issues)
