Job Summary

Oversee the Bureau of Epidemiology and Disease Control, supervising functions including clinical and non-clinical aspects while managing disease surveillance, investigation, and control activities for over 70 reportable communicable diseases. Conduct case and cluster investigations, perform contact investigations, and implement outbreak control measures as needed. Respond to calls from residents and healthcare facilities regarding communicable disease cases, providing guidance, referrals, and post-exposure prophylaxis authorization. Develop bureau policies and procedures in conjunction with the Director of Public Health. Perform field visits for screening, education, and disease prevention, including vaccine and medication administration. Make weekend and overnight calls on a rotating schedule to receive mandated disease reports. Prepare office procedures for assigned cases, including research, records maintenance, and report submission. Participate in community-wide emergency public health preparedness activities and staff meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, or a health related field
  • Six (6) years of nursing experience
  • At least four (4) years of which must have been served in an administrative or supervisory capacity
  • Professional Registered Nurse's License, issued by the NYS Education Department
  • A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS, or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
