Job Summary
Support operational readiness and emergency response activities for the Public Health Emergency Preparedness program. Assist with preparation of reports, maintenance, and updating of emergency plans, standard operating procedures, and resource materials. Participate in training, exercises, drills, and real-time public health response operations. Support procurement activities, including identifying items for purchase, obtaining vendor quotes, and compiling purchase orders. Assist with developing and maintaining inventory of emergency supplies and warehouse equipment. Perform other duties as assigned to support program objectives. This internship provides hands-on experience aligned with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) within the Marion County Public Health Department.
Required Qualifications
- Current undergraduate (junior or senior year) or graduate student in a relevant field (e.g., public health, emergency management, public administration, homeland security, or related discipline)
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally
Desired Qualifications
- National familiarity with or certification in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) or related software applications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure or emergency situations
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse populations and partners
