Job Summary
Public Health Educator focused on suicide prevention for the Northeast Region. Independently administers and coordinates public health education programs across the six areas of Public Health Responsibility, convenes partners and elected officials, conducts health needs assessments and surveys, develops and presents health education policies and programs, manages grants and budgets, trains staff, and provides 24/7 readiness for Emergency Preparedness duties. Coordinates with local, regional, and state partners, prepares communications (press releases, media campaigns), maintains program data, and ensures compliance with public health laws and regulations. Requires collaboration, strong written/oral communication, time management, and the ability to operate in a multi-stakeholder environment; must be available for on-call emergencies and travel to multiple sites as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education or related field; NCHEC-aligned program
- Experience: One year in Health Education or related area
- Training: National Incident Command System trainings 100, 200, 300, 700, 800 (400 advanced) within 6 months; CPR/First Aid/AED; Naloxone; Public Health Foundations and MDH Operations
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license; CHES desirable but not required
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from a Health Education program (addresses the seven responsibilities for Health Education Specialists per NCHEC) or related degree (education, public health)
- One year of related experience in Health Education or closely related area
- National Incident Command System trainings 100, 200, 300, 700, 800 (400 advanced) within 6 months of hire or directed by supervisor
- CPR/First Aid/AED; Naloxone; Public Health Foundations and MDH Operations
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) desirable but not required
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance required
