Job Summary
The English/Writing Tutor provides tutoring instruction to students and supports academic success in assigned subjects (including English/Writing, ESL, and related courses). Responsibilities include facilitating student learning, creating a positive learning atmosphere within the Academic Support Program, maintaining confidentiality, preparing supplemental materials, and delivering academic support in subjects such as COMP 085-110, 111-210, PSY 110, 112, COMM 110, 113, 212, ESL, and Conversation Partners. The role requires strong verbal and written communication, excellent interpersonal skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and prior tutoring/teaching experience. Hours vary with a minimum of 15 hours per week, with on‐campus duties at Peoria and East Peoria Campuses, and compensation between $17.50 and $22.00 per hour.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in English or related field
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others
- Preferred Qualifications: Prior enrollment and completion in the selected course; Experience as a tutor, teacher, or instructor; Experience with Academic Software applications; Experience working in an online learning environment; Experience working in higher education
