Job Summary
Build rapport with youth and adults to promote a safe, engaging library environment. Defuse confrontations using restorative practices and enforce customer policies while alerting leadership to concerning behavior. Assist staff in executing age-appropriate programming and support neighborhood stakeholders, including law enforcement and schools, regarding youth behavior. Provide basic information on library rules, services, and facilities to patrons. Work independently with minimal supervision, lifting objects under 25 pounds and pushing carts up to 150 pounds. Commit to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts while adhering to workplace policies. Schedule includes evenings and weekends; 15 hours per week after school.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Skill in customer service
- Ability to interpret and enforce patron policies to promote a safe and welcoming customer environment
- Ability to work independently and with coworkers in a wide variety of situations with minimal supervision
- Ability to use all technology applicable to the essential functions of the job and commonly used by the Library
- Lifting objects less than 25 pounds and carrying them short distances [50 feet or less]
- Pushing carts of library materials up to 150 pounds
- Working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
- Compliance with Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library's workplace expectations, attendance and punctuality, drug-free workplace, harassment in the workplace, and other employment-related policies and procedures
