Job Summary

Assist in inmate care delivery through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation under Registered Nurse supervision. Administer medications including IV therapy, obtain body fluid specimens, and perform EKGs using proper techniques. Support providers with evaluations, medical procedures, and minor surgeries while documenting care via SOAP forms. Implement therapeutic diet plans and triage healthcare requests within the Health Care Unit and housing units. Maintain controlled substances and medical equipment logs, ensuring safety protocols and standard precautions are followed during interventions.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse
  • Assisting in the delivery of inmate care
  • Assisting in the assessment of the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of inmates
  • Assisting in planning and implementing individual treatment programs
  • Administering medications according to proper techniques and procedures
  • Administering IV therapy (when certified)
  • Assisting the provider in evaluations, medical procedures, and minor surgical procedures
  • Using SOAP form of charting
  • Obtaining body fluid specimens
  • Performing EKGs
  • Maintaining and documenting controlled substances and medical equipment
  • Intervening in a variety of situations with proper safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions
  • Implementing nutrition and therapeutic diet plans
  • Triaging and assessing healthcare requests
  • Graduating from an accredited LPN/LVN program
  • Maintaining current licensure as a LPN/LVN within the state of employment
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication with all coworkers, supervisors, jail administration, and patients
  • Excellent verbal and written comprehension
  • Excellent deductive reasoning and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to use a computer and use/learn a variety of software, including site-specific computer programs
  • Demonstrating ability to appropriately and safely use standard medical equipment
  • Respecting the dignity and confidentiality of inmates
  • Maintaining all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc. for this position
  • Having current CPR/BLS certification
  • Having current TB test (taken within one year)
  • Adhering to all facility policies and procedures as well as the policies and procedures listed in the Employee Handbook
  • Being willing to assist coworkers in the job duties and work overtime if required
  • Acting as a resource to other coworkers
  • Maintaining confidentiality, dignity, and security of health records and protected health information in compliance with HIPAA requirements
  • Undergoing security training and orientation on facility safety policies and procedures
  • Remaining stationary and moving/traversing throughout the facility, including up and down flights of stairs
  • Positioning oneself in different spaces
  • Conveying and discerning information in a conversation
  • Communicating with patients
  • Exchanging accurate information
  • Identifying and detecting objects and assessing situations from a variety of distances
  • Staying calm in stressful and demanding situations
  • Transporting objects up to 50 pounds
  • Passing a background check
  • Passing a pre-employment drug test (as applicable)
  • Treating every other member of the CorrHealth team, all correctional personnel, all inmates and third parties in the facility with the proper dignity and respect
  • Complying with all current and future State, Federal, and Local laws and regulations, court orders, Administrative Directives and standards and policies and procedures of the site where assigned
  • Complying with professional organizations such as ACA, NCCHC, etc.
