Job Summary
Teach African American History courses using approved curricula, emphasizing historical inquiry, critical thinking, and primary-source analysis across local, national, and global contexts. Develop engaging, student-centered learning experiences for adult and non-traditional learners while maintaining organized Blackboard course sites with current materials and assignments. Provide clear syllabi, grading criteria, and timely feedback, monitor attendance and academic performance, and make referrals to college resources as needed. Foster an inclusive, respectful environment that encourages thoughtful discussion of complex historical issues. Submit required documentation accurately by established deadlines and participate in orientation, professional development, and departmental meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in history, African American Studies, Africana Studies, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution
- Doctorate
- At least 18 graduate credit hours in History or the assigned teaching discipline
- Previous teaching experience in higher education, adult education, or a comparable instructional setting
- Experience supporting adult and nontraditional learners
- Demonstrated knowledge of African American history, culture, political movements, social institutions, and the African diaspora
- Strong communication, organizational, instructional, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain a flexible teaching schedule, including evening and weekend courses
- Proficiency with Blackboard or a comparable learning management system
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in history, African American Studies, Africana Studies, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution; doctorate preferred
