PT 1 to 1 Teacher Assistant and Bus Driver

Job Summary

Assist teachers with planning, organizing, and implementing instructional activities while providing one-on-one academic and behavioral support. Monitor student safety and well-being, maintain classroom discipline, and handle general housekeeping and clerical duties. Operate a school bus, transporting students to and from school, performing pre- and post-trip inspections, and ensuring passenger safety. Clean the bus inside and out, conduct emergency evacuation drills, and complete required documentation. Obtain a Commercial Driver's License with P and S endorsements.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Must have or be able to obtain Highly Qualified Status, which includes one of the following: 1) associates degree or higher, 2) 48 hours of college credit, 3) Workkeys Occupational Profile Assessments with minimum scores, which are: Applied Mathematives level 4, Reading for information level 4, and Workplace Documents level 3
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must hold or be willing to get a North Carolina Commercial Driver's License with P and S Endorsement
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when a student is participating in an inclusive activity
  • Ability to motivate students
  • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
  • Ability to perform general clerical duties
  • Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom
  • Ability to operate common office machines
  • Ability to maintain basic files and records
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
  • General knowledge of operating a school bus; general knowledge of the geography of the District and the location of streets; skill in the safe operation of a school bus
  • Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc
  • Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work
  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force
  • Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, and lifting
  • Work has standard vision requirements
  • vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly
  • hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
  • Work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities
  • Work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to blood-borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment
