Job Summary
Conduct psycho-educational assessments and periodic re-evaluations of referred students, preparing written reports with diagnoses and recommendations. Provide consultative support to teachers, administrators, and parents regarding mental health, behavior, and educational strategies while facilitating IEP meetings. Deliver short-term counseling to special education and regular education students and families, including crisis counseling and expulsion assistance. Drive a vehicle to conduct work as required.
Required Qualifications
- master's degree in educational or clinical psychology
- at least one year of internship under the supervision of a credentialed school psychologist
- Pupil Personnel Services Credential with School Psychology authorization
- Valid California Drivers License
- Employment eligibility that may include fingerprints, Tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance
- Knowledge of testing practices, procedures and methods
- Knowledge of various testing materials, instruments and equipment
- Knowledge of individual and group counseling techniques
- Knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations regarding special education and assigned duties
- Knowledge of IEP preparation and implementation methods and procedures
- Knowledge of appropriate referral agencies
- Knowledge of record-keeping techniques
- Knowledge of applicable sections of the State Education Code
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
- Principles of providing work direction and guidance to assigned personnel
- Technical aspects of field of specialty
- Ability to perform professional evaluations of psychological, social and educational needs of students
- Ability to develop, write and implement comprehensive Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for special education students
- Ability to utilize various testing techniques, materials, equipment and instruments
- Ability to counsel effectively with students and parents
- Ability to prepare and maintain confidential records and files
- Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
- Ability to work confidentially with discretion
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Ability to work independently with little direction
- Ability to maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field
