Job Summary
Alert nurses of patient condition changes, obtain and record vital signs, and perform simple tests like EKGs and urinalysis. Provide personal care including bathing and hygiene, answer call lights, and assist patients with meals and group activities. Maintain accurate documentation through 15-minute rounding sheets, log valuables, and stock dining rooms. Remain calm during emergency behavioral situations and assist in training new aides. Requires BLS certification within 60 days and CPI or similar certification.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds
- Ability to cope with constant changes in a stress-laden environment
- Ability to remain calm in potentially tense situations
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with patients, clinic/hospital staff, and the general public
- Ability to learn the requisition procedures, formats and protocols
- Ability to utilize a personal computer and its applications in a Windows environment
- Ability to maintain a confident, professional demeanor
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology used in a health care facility
- Ability to interact professionally with healthcare practitioners and patients
- Knowledge of procedures for appointing and routing patients in a health practice setting
- Skills in organizing maintaining accurate records and documentation
- Ability to remain calm during emergency behavioral situations
Desired Qualifications
- 1 year experience working with psychiatric patients
- Certified Nurse Aide
- CPI or similar certification
- Current BLS certification or recertification
