Job Summary
Assess patients, diagnose or rule out mental disorders, and prescribe treatments while documenting encounters and monitoring client progress. Develop comprehensive treatment plans by establishing goals and methodologies, including psychotropic medications, and evaluate clients through interviews, physical examinations, and psychological testing. Treat clients using psychotherapeutic methods and medications, discussing progress and monitoring medication effects. Maintain interdisciplinary collaboration by reviewing treatment plans and consulting with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, and nurses. Ensure safe service delivery through utilization reviews and emergency consultations, while improving staff competence via discussions on crisis intervention and medication management. Maintain historical records and complete communications with social services agencies, updating knowledge through continuing medical education.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a psychiatry residency or a combined family medicine/psychiatry residency in an ACGME-approved residency program
- Current BC/BE in Psychiatry (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology)
- Valid state Medical license as MD/DO
- Valid DEA certificate
- Strong understanding of advocacy and the role it plays in mental health
- Detail-oriented with excellent time management, organizational, written, verbal, interpersonal, and computer skills
- Able to learn quickly and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and with minimal supervision
- Current, valid California Driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Strong interpersonal and team building skills
- Able to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in chemical dependency and substance abuse treatment
- Knowledge of Medi-Cal documentation and requirements
- Minimum 30 WPM typing speed
- Bilingual Spanish
