Job Summary
Provide inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care to Veterans at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX, with potential rotation to affiliated Community-Based Outpatient Clinics. Duties include psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, treatment planning, management of serious mental illness, admission/discharge, E-consults and post-discharge follow-ups, adherence to VA timelines and policies, collaboration with VA mental health staff and interdisciplinary teams, medication management, discharge education, participation in peer reviews and QA/QI activities, documentation, and scheduling/coverage planning. Requires MD or DO, active/unrestricted license, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry, BLS/ACLS, DEA license, and active NPI. Must pass federal background check and meet physical requirements as described.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO
- Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
- BLS and ACLS certification (current)
- DEA license (active)
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) (active or obtainable)
- Must be able to pass a federal background investigation
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift; Lift up to 50 lbs; Lift up to 20 lbs; Carry up to 40 lbs; Push/pull with 30 lbs of force
