Job Summary
Psychiatric Technician provides direct and indirect psychiatric care to promote patient comfort, safety, and well-being under hospital policy, including CPR, seclusion and restraint procedures, accurate measurements of vital signs, and meticulous documentation. Responsibilities include 1:1 observation, patient transport, orientation of new technicians, collaboration with the treatment team on patient education and goal achievement, leading patient groups, administering patient teaching projects, managing disturbed or potentially assaultive patients, responding to emergency codes, attending ongoing education, and pursuing required certifications within organizational timelines.
Required Qualifications
- Psychiatric Technician Certification obtained through the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians within 90 days of hire
- Six months experience in an adult and/or adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit; May include up to six (6) months experience on an inpatient chemical dependency unit
- Experience with involuntary patients
- Experience with the Management Of Aggressive Behavior and seclusion and restraints
- Valid California Driver’s license
- Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier
- Training completed within 30 days from date of hire and certification at a commensurate level to perform job duties
