Job Summary
Provide 1:1 observation and care for adult psychiatric patients in emergency and behavioral health settings, documenting behavior changes, physical status, and interactions with families. Identify unusual patient or family behavior, recognize verbal/non-verbal communication issues, and report findings to the charge RN. Set humane limits, protect patient privacy, and conduct contraband searches and belongings inventories per policy. Transport patients, assist with activities of daily living including bathing and laundry, and help with meal services. Perform Q15 checks, complete admission paperwork, and enter treatment orders. Work collaboratively with the Behavioral Health team under the direction of nursing staff and management.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or comparable education equivalent
- Ability to work effectively with Behavioral Health patients
- Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention technique
- First Aid Training
- BLS Certification
- De-escalation Training
- Ability to occasionally lift/carry up to 25 lbs
- Ability to occasionally push/pull up to 75 lbs
- Ability to frequently bend, squat, kneel and occasionally reach above shoulders
- Ability to work in fast paced healthcare environment
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to identify unusual behavior of patients and their families
- Ability to recognize verbal/non-verbal communication problems of patients and their families
