Job Summary
Deliver patient care, assist with activities of daily living, and provide treatments such as EKGs and blood glucose testing for adults and children on an acute psychiatric unit. Conduct patient safety rounds every 15 minutes, observe patients for unusual circumstances, and report concerns to licensed nurses. Lead goals/wrap-up groups, manage code secure activities, and handle escalating situations with patients exhibiting aggressive or combative behavior. Complete admission and discharge processes, document care in the EMR, and perform clerical duties while maintaining a safe therapeutic milieu. Work weekends only as a team member, reporting to the licensed nurse and contributing to quality management and cost containment initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED
- Valid Virginia State Drivers license
- De-escalation training
- AHA BLS-HCP
- Experience with or the ability for managing patients with explosive potential and/or escalating situations
- Ability to function with minimum supervision, recognizing the need for direction and assistance in situations beyond his/her scope of capabilities
- Ability to learn and participate as a team member
- Clinical skills to work with child, adolescent and adult population understanding their growth and development
