Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnose mental health conditions, and manage medication for facility residents while ensuring safety and compliance with state and federal mandates. Provide immediate interventions during psychiatric emergencies, maintain accurate patient records, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including correctional staff and psychologists to implement treatment plans. Lead educational training activities related to mental health care and adhere to all correctional healthcare policies and legal requirements. This role requires a Board-certified PMHNP with experience serving underserved populations in a secure environment where security is a top priority.
Required Qualifications
- Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in CA
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in California
- A current DEA registration in CA
- Have a valid AHA BLS CPR card
- Experience with underserved and marginalized populations, including those with mental health and substance use disorders
- Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse individuals, including other medical professionals and correctional staff
- Must possess strong written communication and verbal skills and have strong computer skills
- Strong assessment and diagnostic skills
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
