Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnose and treat mental health and substance use disorders, and prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications including Medication-Assisted Treatment. Provide ongoing medication management, develop individualized treatment plans, and educate patients and families on diagnoses and recovery planning. Respond to psychiatric crises, order and interpret laboratory testing, and collaborate with therapists, nursing staff, and case managers to coordinate care and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings. Complete accurate medical documentation within the electronic health record while ensuring compliance with Iowa HHS regulations, DEA requirements, and Joint Commission standards. Maintain current licensure, DEA registration, and continuing education. Work full-time, on-site Monday through Friday in Columbus, Indiana with occasional flexibility for clinical meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program
  • Current, unrestricted Iowa Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) license
  • Active DEA registration with prescribing authority
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders, psychopharmacology, and substance use disorder treatment
  • Excellent clinical assessment, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary treatment team
  • Monday through Friday schedule with occasional flexibility based on operational needs
  • No routine overnight shifts
  • Primarily office-based with direct patient care responsibilities

Desired Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of psychiatric or behavioral health prescribing experience
  • Experience treating individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions
  • Experience providing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • Experience in outpatient behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment settings
  • Knowledge of ASAM Criteria, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and recovery-oriented treatment
  • Experience working within Joint Commission-accredited organizations
