Job Summary
Deliver safe, compassionate psychiatric nursing care on an inpatient behavioral health unit for adult and geriatric patients. Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and provide therapeutic interventions. Administer and monitor psychotropic medications, observe and document responses, and promptly report changes in condition. Lead and participate in treatment team meetings, collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other care providers, and engage patients and families in care planning and education. Promote a safe, trauma-informed environment using de-escalation techniques, monitor suicide risk and safety protocols, ensure accurate electronic documentation, and participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives. Mentor and precept new staff, support teamwork and professional growth, and contribute to high-quality psychiatric care within Mission Health for the Asheville community.
Required Qualifications
- RN license in good standing
- psychiatric nursing experience preferred
- ability to perform comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments
- ability to administer and monitor psychotropic medications
- competence in de-escalation and crisis intervention
- electronic medical record documentation
- precepting/mentoring nursing staff
- commitment to trauma-informed care and patient safety
