Job Summary
Operate manual and CNC machines including knee mills, lathes, routers, waterjets, and lasers to fabricate precision components from aluminum, steel, and plastics per engineering drawings. Plan, set-up, and run equipment independently or within a team while inspecting machined parts with micrometers, calipers, and gauges to confirm specifications. Collaborate with engineers to translate concept sketches and verbal ideas into real-world components, refining designs for manufacturability and solving problems involving complex geometries. Maintain machine shop safety, cleanliness, and peak performance while coordinating facilities maintenance and outside contractors. Perform heavy lifting, climb ladders, and work in extreme temperatures, noise, and confined spaces aboard ships or in shipyards.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of related experience
- High School diploma/GED
- certification in assigned area
- Proficient with programming, setting-up and operating CNC tools
- 5-axis experience
- Must be experienced using conventional lathes and milling machines
- Must be proficient in the use and reading of various measurement devices including but not limited to rulers and scales, micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes

Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline
- 3 years of related experience
- Proficient with Mastercam and/or similar CAM software
- Experienced in reading, interpreting and following blueprints, technical drawings
- Knowledge of safety and quality control steps and procedures
