Job Summary

Prototype Machinist responsible for end-to-end parts fabrication in Emeryville shop, including tooling/materials ordering, CAM programming, fixture design, machining, and metrology/inspection. Will develop processes, improve feeds/speeds, train staff, and collaborate with engineers to enhance part manufacturability and reduce machining time. Requires 5+ years CNC machining in prototype/R&D, 5-axis (3+2) or mill-turn, strong CAM experience (Fusion 360 preferred), and solid GD&T skills. Must be able to read complex prints, program CAM, and perform in-process/final inspections; will mentor junior machinists and contribute to design feedback for faster, higher-quality manufacture.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience in a fast-paced prototype or R&D environment
  • 5-axis (3+2) or mill-turn work experience
  • Mastercam, Fusion 360, HyperMill, FeatureCAM or similar CAM platform
  • Strong GD&T literacy and ability to read complex prints
  • Ability to program CAM, fixture design, and metrology inspections
  • Experience with calipers, micrometers, height gauge, and CMM inspections
  • Ability to run CNC equipment including 3-axis, 3+2, true 5-axis mills, live-tool lathes, waterjet & laser cutters
  • Ability to develop creative work-holding and tooling solutions
  • Capable of refining feeds/speeds and proposing process improvements
  • Collaborative mindset with engineers to ensure manufacturability and propose design tweaks
  • Mentorship/training of junior machinists
