Protestant Service Pianist

Job Summary

Conduct piano support for the Protestant 0900 Liturgical Traditional Service every Sunday at Memorial Chapel, MCAS Cherry Point. Consult with the Command Chaplain regarding music selection and performance, and provide qualified substitute coverage when unavailable. Deliver a minimum of five hours weekly, including one hour of worship service, one hour for planning bulletin selections, and three hours of rehearsal time. Appraise the Command Chaplain of any malfunctioning musical instruments and required service. Maintain professional currency through personal study, training, and seminars at your own expense. Obtain a background check and secure a pianist badge within five working days of contract award.

Required Qualifications

  • 1099 contractor status with Music Ministry International
  • Have a degree in piano/organ performance from an accredited institution and/or at least three years' experience as a church organist-pianist
  • Must be able to read music from the Armed Forces Hymnal
  • Must demonstrate competence through a resume and an audition and oral interview with the Command Chaplain
  • Must obtain a background check from the local police department at the pianist's own expense
  • Must secure a pianist badge within five (5) working days of contract award
  • Must display the pianist badge at all times while working in the vicinity of duties
  • Must attend an orientation brief given by the Memorial Chapel staff
  • Must provide piano support every Sunday at the Protestant 0900 Liturgical Traditional Service
  • Must consult with the Protestant chaplain regarding the selection and performance of Protestant service music
  • Must provide piano support for memorial services, associated rehearsals and other special services and programs when directed by the Command Chaplain
  • Must provide a qualified substitute when unavailable for a regularly scheduled worship service
  • Must advise the chapel contracting officer of absence at least one week in advance
  • Must appraise the Command Chaplain of malfunctioning musical instruments and required service
  • Must remain professionally current through personal study, training, conferences, workshops and seminars at own expense
  • Must provide a minimum of Five (5) hours of Pianist services per week
  • Must provide three references from individuals who can attest to the candidate's good work and steadiness
  • Must include one priest or pastor as a reference who can attest to abilities as they relate to the job posting
