Job Summary
Conduct internal and external safety and security functions to support the general safety of BSMH facilities, including participation in investigations and detentions when warranted. Respond to radio and telephone calls for routine and emergency assistance by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and mitigating environment of care safety hazards. Deter criminal activity through routine patrols of all hospital property, enforce policies such as parking regulations and visitation rules, and monitor closed circuit television for escalating situations. Intervene in patient, visitor, and staff confrontations as appropriate, document all duties in daily activity logs and incident reports, and maintain proficiency with defensive tools and restraint equipment. Work evenings and nights (Friday through Sunday, 18:00–06:30) with a 36-hour weekly schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license
- BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association
- South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) licensure requirements (armed – Taser)
- TASER Training certification
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-2 years of security, law enforcement, or military experience
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
- Manual dexterity (eye/hand coordination)
- Hear alarms/telephone/audio recordings
