Job Summary
Act as the first responder to disruptive persons, manage control room operations for emergency monitoring and intrusion detection, and patrol internal, external, and offsite campus locations including storage facilities. Conduct building sweeps during evacuations, administer first aid and NARCAN, and communicate with law enforcement and emergency personnel. Secure premises by removing trespassers, document incidents objectively, and assist with training new staff while maintaining confidentiality. Open and close the Museum, process mail, and enforce the Visitor Agreement to Safe & Inclusive Spaces. This 42-hour week involves night shifts, on-call rotation, and weekend availability in a 24/7 environment with mandatory security dress code.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience in security operations, law enforcement, military environment or a related field
- Offsite training for PSO II role must be successfully completed within 90 days
- Current Oregon Department of Public Standards Safety Training (DPSST) Unarmed certification highly preferred or must be obtained within 90 days
- CPR & AED training certification or must be obtained within 90 days
- Experience with use of force continuum
- Experience with access control, CCTV, and fire systems
- Experience with de-escalation of hostile and potentially violent individuals
- Basic knowledge of security principles
- Prior security or similar experience in environments that include interactions with people experiencing mental illness and or under the influence of drugs/alcohol
- Effective problem solving skills
- Possession of all the following: DPSST, NARCAN training, and First Aid, CPR & AED certification
Desired Qualifications
- Less than lethal or defensive tactics training preferred (i.e. reflex protect spray)
- Approachable demeanor with a people-first value
- Work collaboratively in an equitable and inclusive framework with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds
- Comfortable dealing with conflict, de-escalation, and confrontation
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Basic operational knowledge of computers including word processing and email
