Job Summary
Ulteig is seeking a qualified System Protection Engineer to lead protective relay projects and compliance studies primarily for hydroelectric facilities. Responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, and commissioning protection and control systems, creating design packages for relay replacement projects, leading field demolition, and on-site or remote troubleshooting. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Professional Engineer registration (or ability to obtain it), and 4+ years of engineering experience. Candidates should have experience with design deliverables, on-site commissioning, troubleshooting protection schemes, and familiarity with relevant standards and tools.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent) required
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration required, or the ability to obtain within 1 year
- 4+ years of engineering experience required
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering is a plus
- Experience producing and/or reviewing one-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel elevations, and bills of materials (BOMs)
- On-site commissioning experience with CT/PT wiring injection and verification, Protective relay testing, End-to-end relay testing, Functional verification of protection schemes, CT/PT burden/load verification
- Experience providing on-site demolition and construction engineering support
- Experience troubleshooting protection and control schemes
- Working knowledge of HV substation equipment and MV electrical apparatus
- Experience applying protection engineering practices for transmission line, bus, transformer, capacitor bank, reactor bank, feeder, generator, motor, and communications-assisted protection schemes
- Familiarity with protection and control design standards
- Familiarity with NERC PRC standards
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and programming
- Knowledge of NEC and California Electrical Code (CEC)
- Proficiency in SEL AcSELerator Quickset, SEL AcSELerator RTAC, SEL SynchoWAVe, ASPEN OneLiner, GE Enervista UR Setup, EasyPower, ETAP, and AutoCAD
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must be based in California and willing to travel statewide, and occasionally out of state as project needs require
- Must have permanent authorization to work in the U.S.
