Protection & Controls Engineer

Job Summary
Design protection and control systems for high voltage substations up to 500kV, including single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and wiring diagrams. Perform electrical system studies, load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analyses, while developing SCADA, RTU, and communications systems designs. Coordinate with other disciplines to manage design budgets and schedules, conduct site visits for data gathering, and review shop drawings for conformance. Mentor junior engineers and support factory acceptance testing and field commissioning. Lead design efforts with minimal supervision on multiple projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- 5+ years of protection and control design experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Experience working directly with clients on design projects
- Ability to manage design budgets and schedules

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with design software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD E, MicroStation, Bluebeam)
- Proficiency with electrical analysis software (ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, PSS/E)
- Client-facing proposal and marketing support experience
- Load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis experience
- Protective relay coordination and settings expertise
- SCADA and communications systems experience
- Site visit and field commissioning experience
- Knowledge of NERC, IEEE, and NESC standards
- Experience with large complex substation projects
