Protection & Control Specialist (Field Technologist or Engineer)

Job Summary

Conduct installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of protective relays, RTUs, PLCs, and communication systems on transmission, distribution, and generation assets. Perform field testing of transformers, buses, and generation assets while configuring relay systems including SEL and GE Multilin equipment. Interpret drawings and protection schemes to resolve field issues with guidance from senior specialists, supporting SCADA integration and upgrading relay settings. Contribute to project documentation and maintain communication with clients and internal teams while adhering to a safety-first culture. Requires 3–7 years of experience, a relevant degree, and valid driver's license for remote travel across British Columbia.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 - 7 years of progressive experience in protection & controls field services
  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience with protection relays
  • Familiarity with RTU and communication systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness to travel across BC
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

Desired Qualifications

  • NETA Certification (or working toward certification)
  • Previous experience supporting commissioning projects
  • SEL preferred
  • GE considered an asset
