Job Summary
Monitor protection standards and operational procedures while managing individual protection cases, including those involving GBV and child protection. Provide advice on protection issues to populations of concern and assist in conducting eligibility and status determination for refugees and asylum seekers. Contribute to country-level protection and education plans, design strategies to prevent statelessness, and facilitate access to exit clearance for voluntary repatriation, resettlement, and complementary pathways. Liaise with government authorities, partners, and communities to enforce compliance with global protection policies and advocate for alternatives to detention. Submit payment requests for populations of concern and raise risks and concerns to supervisors to ensure decision-making remains risk-based.
Required Qualifications
- 3 years relevant experience
- High School Diploma
- 2 years relevant work experience
- Bachelor or equivalent or higher degree
- Field of Education in International Law, Political Science or other related field
- Knowledge of English
- Knowledge of UN working language of the duty station if not English
- Knowledge of local language
- Demonstrated knowledge of UNHCR's protection principles and standards
- Practical experience in translating these principles and standards into strategies and tools
- Sound knowledge of the national legal system
- Demonstrated experience in effectively advocating for access to solutions
- Demonstrated experience in preventing detention and refoulement
- Demonstrated experience in securing release of asylum-seekers and refugees from detention
- Prior experience working with government entities and other stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Professionalism
- Willingness to travel within the country
