Job Summary

Monitor protection standards and operational procedures while providing functional support to information management and programme staff. Coordinate quality protection responses for populations of concern, identify opportunities to mainstream protection methodologies, and contribute to designing comprehensive protection strategies. Manage individual protection cases including those on GBV and child protection, and intervene in incidents of refoulement, expulsion, and other protection risks. Assist in providing advice on protection issues, conduct eligibility and status determination, and facilitate access to exit clearance for departures on voluntary repatriation, resettlement, and complementary pathways. Liaise with competent authorities and partners to ensure issuance of documentation, enforce compliance with global protection policies, and advocate for access to solutions by mitigating barriers in exit processes. Submit individual payments requests for approval and raise risks and concerns to supervisors. Support the identification and management of risks and contribute to initiatives to capacitate authorities and NGOs to strengthen national protection legislation.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 years relevant experience
  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years relevant work experience
  • Bachelor or equivalent or higher
  • Field(s) of Education: International Law, Political Science or other related field
  • Knowledge of English
  • Knowledge of UN working language of the duty station if not English
  • Knowledge of local language
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UNHCR's protection principles and standards
  • Practical experience in translating these principles and standards into strategies and tools in support of effective protection delivery
  • Sound knowledge of the national legal system
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively advocating for access to solutions, preventing detention and refoulement, and securing release of asylum-seekers and refugees from detention
  • Prior experience working with government entities and other stakeholders
  • Proven analytical and drafting skills
  • Experience in supporting development of protection and solution strategies and coordinating the implementation with external interlocutors
  • Experience in counselling refugees and asylum seekers
  • Willingness to travel within the country
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Demonstration of professionalism
