Job Summary
Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patient needs, formulate treatment plans, and recommend options for prosthetic and orthotic services. Examine functional loss, select materials, perform casting and measurements, and design custom devices. Execute fitting procedures including static and dynamic alignments, evaluate device function, and instruct patients on proper use. Provide follow-up care, conduct in-service training for medical staff, and reconcile issues to ensure patient satisfaction. Participate in practice management, meet with referral sources to develop business relationships, and plan strategies to exceed revenue targets. Maintain detailed clinical records, manage materials and quality processes, and mentor residents or newly certified clinicians as required.
Required Qualifications
- Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC)
- A baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics, or the foreign equivalent
- current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
- A valid driver's license
- driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
- ability to obtain and maintain state licensure (in states where required)
- willingness to consider candidates who are certified in one discipline who wish to see patients in their certified discipline while simultaneously completing residency in the other discipline
- at least 5 years of demonstrated past experience in providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under the supervision of a certified clinician (for candidates not certified or board-eligible)
- Thorough understanding of the principles of biomechanics
- Thorough understanding of pathomechanics
- Thorough understanding of gait analysis
- Thorough understanding of kinesiology
- Thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology
- Thorough understanding of componentry
- Thorough understanding of the suitability and reliability of componentry for specific uses
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology
- Effective communication skills for accurate, concise, and organized oral and written presentation and reports to patient and staff
- Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on objectives of patient care services
- Active listening, reading and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charts and correspondence
- Ability to assess patient condition and advise physician on treatment options
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with physicians, therapists and patients
- Ability to work effectively as a team member

- Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility
- Fine motor skills adequate for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment and supplies for treatment
- Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in duration in accordance with state labor laws
