Job Summary
Propulsion Systems Engineer II responsible for the end-to-end definition, integration, and execution of propulsion systems for hypersonic vehicles. Role spans propulsion design, vehicle integration, systems engineering, and test from concept through flight demonstration and production transition. Key duties include design and analysis of fluid and mechanical vehicle components (tanks, structures, feed systems, propellant management), applying first-principles engineering to drive decisions, supporting rapid development cycles with testing and data analysis, modifying designs for performance and manufacturability, supporting test planning and execution (ground and flight), investigating failures and driving continuous design improvement, assembling and testing first article prototypes, collaborating with manufacturing and analysis teams to reduce variation, interfacing with customers and partners during design reviews and IPT/TIM meetings, and contributing to DFM and producibility considerations. Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in relevant field, 3-5 years propulsion experience, CAD proficiency, GD&T using ASME Y14.5, and ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. Security Clearance; preferred include Master’s degree, NX and Windchill proficiency, design-review leadership, and experience with ANSYS and propulsion system analyses.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in propulsion systems engineering or propulsion-focused vehicle development
- Proficiency with computer aided design and drafting
- Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
- Working knowledge of and hands-on experience with fluid, mechanical, and electrical systems
- Desire to take ownership and help wherever needed on the team
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance
- Classification: Full-time Exempt
- Must be a U.S. Person (this includes U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents)
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field
- 2+ years of Siemens NX CAD programs and Windchill PLM software
- Experience leading design reviews to communicate design decisions and trades
- Experience in design and analysis of tanks, structures or fluids
- Coordination with analysis and lead engineers to quickly mature designs
- Demonstrated proficiency with fundamental manual or CNC machining equipment and processes (milling, turning)
- Experience with fluids, structural and thermal analysis using Ansys software
- Liquid propellant rocket engine design, test, or analysis
