Job Summary
Review solicitation documents to identify requirements, evaluation criteria, and submission risks. Interview subject matter experts to gather technical, operational, and business information, asking thoughtful questions to uncover gaps before writing. Synthesize complex concepts into clear, compelling responses that align with scoring rubrics. Use AI tools appropriately for research and drafting while applying strong editorial judgment to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with data protection requirements. Operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with flexible daytime availability (9–5 PST) and occasional all-hands-on-deck moments. This on-call independent contractor role supports Button's mission of building reliable technology for government and private-sector clients to create a sustainable future through digital transformation.
Required Qualifications
- proven experience working with technical subject matter experts
- experience conducting interviews and extracting information from stakeholders, including technical recruiting
- ability to turn incomplete or ambiguous information into well-structured written content
- experience writing against evaluation criteria or scoring rubrics
- experience working in fast-paced environments with competing deadlines
- flexible schedule with some daytime availability
- comfortable operating in a collaborative, fast-moving environment
- ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure
- experience in proposal writing, grant writing, procurement responses, or related work
- strong academic writing experience in STEM-related fields (Master's thesis, PhD, research writing, etc.)
- demonstrated strong communication and synthesis skills
- sound judgment, critical thinking, and strong editing skills
- experience ensuring work is clear, accurate, thoughtful, and free from generic or low-quality AI slop
- experience in appropriate data handling practices
- experience using discretion regarding what information can and cannot be entered into public AI/LLM tools
- ability to maintain compliance with privacy, confidentiality, and data protection requirements
