Job Summary
Senior-level property-management accounting role overseeing financial operations for a portfolio of low-income and supportive housing properties. Responsibilities include preparing/reviewing monthly financial statements with variance analysis and budget comparisons; GL functions (journal entries, reconciliations); closing cycles; maintaining restricted/unrestricted funds schedules; ensuring compliance with HUD, LIHTC, and other affordable housing guidelines; supporting audits, cost certifications, and tax filings (including 990/990-T); managing vendor invoices and AP; entering data into Yardi/RealPage/MRI; and collaborating with property managers, program staff, and asset management to ensure fiscal responsibility. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, 5+ years nonprofit/property-management accounting, GAAP and nonprofit accounting knowledge, and experience with Yardi/RealPage/MRI; CPA or CPA candidate preferred; strong Excel skills; commitment to social justice and ECS mission.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 5 years nonprofit or property management accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and affordable housing regulations (HUD, LIHTC, Section 8, CoC)
- Experience with property management and accounting systems such as Yardi, RealPage, or MRI
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting software
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and communicate financial concepts to non-finance staff
Desired Qualifications
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- Experience with nonprofit audit preparation and fund accounting
- Knowledge of CAM reconciliations and utility billing
- Familiarity with grant reporting and restricted funds management
- Commitment to social justice and the mission of providing supportive housing
- Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and affordable housing regulations (HUD, LIHTC, Section 8)
