Job Summary
Investigate property claims for farm and home owners through on-site inspections, interviews, and loss evaluations to determine coverage and settle cases according to company procedures. Conduct field inspections to assess building values, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions or appropriate insurance coverage while collaborating with underwriting. Manage the full settlement lifecycle from start to close, including setting reserves, negotiating equitable values, and authorizing payments within delegated authority. Prepare detailed reports documenting findings, contacts, and offers, and assist with subrogation or litigation files as needed. Maintain strong relationships with agents and mutual managers while verifying stolen items with law enforcement when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year accredited college or university
- minimum of two years property (home and farm owners) adjusting experience
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- valid driver's license
- ability to travel from the office located in the employee's home to Grinnell Mutual customer offices or claim sites
- Daytime travel approximately 60 to 80% of the time
- Occasional overnight travel is required approximately 10% of time
- Regular and predictable attendance
- ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive or proprietary information
- ability to adhere to all Grinnell Mutual policies

Desired Qualifications
