Job Summary
Property Advocate role focusing on building and maintaining relationships with private landlords and property management companies, traveling to multiple sites, and supporting formerly homeless individuals and families within a Housing First framework. Responsibilities include assisting clients with locating housing, facilitating tenant move-ins, coordinating with Case Managers on tenancy issues, conducting inspections, obtaining property-owner documentation, completing certification paperwork, coordinating client viewings and transportation, delivering tenant education on Chicago Tenant Rights, and ensuring habitability through remediation documentation. Also responsible for landlord/tenant mediation, lease renewals, fostering landlord relationships, coordinating scattered-site workshops, and program administration (documentation in HMIS, Property Tracker, and AppFolio), monitoring rental payments, and preparing arrearage reports. Requires collaboration with teams, confidentiality, ongoing professional development, and scheduling flexibility to support hybrid remote/field/office work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three years’ experience in affordable housing, supportive housing, or other social service setting
- Knowledgeable of Chicago rental market and familiar with Chicago Landlord-Tenant Ordinance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general office equipment; strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Driver’s license and vehicle required
