Job Summary
The Projects Accountant will be the financial steward of multi-project operations, leading budgeting, forecasting, and real-time financial visibility across project lifecycles. Responsibilities include developing rolling budgets aligned to BoQs and contract values, producing project P&Ls and variance analyses, managing WIP and cash flows, validating IPCs and supplier invoices, supporting contract negotiations, and driving IT-enabled financial processes. The role requires hands-on ERP proficiency (Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate, SAP PS, or equivalent), advanced Excel and BI tooling (Power BI, Qlik, Tableau), and digital document management practices. Collaboration with project managers, quantity surveyors, site teams, and stakeholders to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting is essential. The position emphasizes IFRS 15, project cost control, procurement oversight, and continuous process improvement across a multi-project construction environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field from a recognised university
- Minimum 6 years’ progressive experience in project accounting, cost accounting, or financial management
- At least 3 years’ direct experience in the construction, civil engineering, or infrastructure contracting sector in Kenya or East Africa is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-project financial portfolios with an aggregate value of KES 500M+ is an added advantage
- ERP proficiency with construction/project-focused ERP systems (Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate, SAP PS module, or equivalent)
- Advanced Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, financial modelling) with VBA macros/Power Query
- Business Intelligence experience with Qlik, Tableau, or equivalent
- MS Office 365 Suite proficiency
- Digital document management familiarity (SharePoint, Aconex, Procore)
- Data integrity and cybersecurity awareness in financial data governance
- Knowledge of IFRS 15, WIP accounting, and contract revenue recognition
- Ability to build and maintain dashboards and financial packs for project steering and governance
- Ability to liaise with project managers, quantity surveyors, and site teams to provide financial input during project lifecycle
- Experience in cost control, IPCs, retention calculations, and final accounts
- Strong analytical and communication skills to translate complex financial information into actionable insights
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment
- Commercial awareness of contract structures (lump sum, re-measured, cost-plus) and procurement models
- Experience in Kenya or East Africa construction sector preferred
