Job Summary
Direct construction oversight and inspection services for municipal and public agencies across Arizona, overseeing contractor work on roads and bridges while exercising significant independent judgment. Manage project schedules, prioritize assignments, and supervise subordinate staff, including directing construction activities and taking disciplinary action as required. Perform technical analysis using complex computations, prepare specification and technical writing, and maintain adequate documentation of all assigned activities. Operate assigned equipment and utilize computer programs for data analysis and daily diary documentation. Interpret and implement standards, policies, and regulations applicable to highway, roadway, and bridge construction management.
Required Qualifications
- Chief Inspector - Phoenix or Tucson or Statewide
- Construction Technician / Administration
- Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering
- Independent judgment within established program parameters, policies and procedures
- Ability to approve/disapprove work performed in the work unit
- Ability to direct activities of consultants or subordinate staff
- Ability to perform lead or supervisory duties
- Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments
- Ability to direct construction related activities performed by contractors or consultants
- Ability to supervise assigned subordinate personnel
- Ability to take disciplinary action as required
- Ability to use complex mathematical computations and adjustment factors
- Ability to perform specification and technical writing
- Ability to perform work scheduling and management
- Ability to perform analysis and preparation of data
- Ability to perform advanced level work assignments within assigned area(s) of construction
- Ability to properly use, operate, maintenance, and repair of assigned equipment
- Ability to use computer programs applicable within the work unit
- Ability to maintain adequate documentation of all assigned activities
- Ability to interpret and implement standards, policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to the area of assignment
- Ability to complete training in multiple areas of construction
- ATTI Field Certification CRT3400 (renewal required every five years)
- ACI Field Certification CRT3410 (renewal required every five years)
- ATSSA Traffic Control Technician TCH1168 (renewal required every four years)
- ATSSA Supervisor TCH1167 (renewal required every four years)
- NICET Certification
- ADOT Assignments (required in addition to all listed above)
- Pay Item Daily Diary Documentation TCH3001 (renewal required every four years)
- NHI Daily Diary Review TCH134071W (renewal required every year)
Desired Qualifications
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- NICET Certification a plus
