Job Summary
Lead energy-project NEPA environmental planning efforts, serving as the primary author for NEPA-related planning and environmental documents and coordinating tasks across technical disciplines. Manage NEPA processes (CatEx, EA, EIS) from initiation through completion, including public engagement, alternatives and comment analysis, and administrative record preparation. Mentor staff on NEPA approaches, provide peer reviews, and coach teams on clear, compliant writing. Drive client engagement, scope and budget development, and proposals/interviews to expand ESA’s energy practice. Develop and maintain relationships with utilities and renewable-energy developers, engineering partners, and teaming partners to originate opportunities and grow ESA’s energy business. The role requires 10+ years of experience and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental planning, policy, science, or related fields, with strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. A professional technical writing sample authored by the applicant is requested as part of the application.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental planning, policy, science, or related interdisciplinary field
- 10+ years of related work experience
- Experience NEPA documents and supporting applicant NEPA documents
- NEPA process knowledge including CatEx, EA, EIS
- Experience with BLM regulations and related manuals/handbooks
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Mentoring and leadership experience
- Ability to manage projects from initiation through completion
- Business development and client relationship experience
