Job Summary
Energy Modeling Project Manager role focusing on high-profile sustainability projects in Massachusetts with potential national/international scope. Core duties include performing advanced energy modeling for high-rise commercial/residential buildings using DOE 2.2 or EnergyPlus per ASHRAE standards, modeling HVAC systems, assembling documentation on methods and results, executing energy auditing/benchmarking/measurement & verification, performing energy savings and lifecycle cost analyses, Excel-based calculations, and developing/rewriting reports to describe components and efficiency measures. The position requires QA/QC of team work, strong client and stakeholder engagement, and providing feedback to improve building energy performance. Preferred candidates hold PE or RA accreditation or plan to obtain it, have deep knowledge of NYS/NYC energy codes, PHI/PHIUS certification tools, HERS, and advanced modeling software; proficiency in Excel, with basic AutoCAD/Revit skills and programming knowledge a plus. The work may involve national/international projects and collaboration within SOCOTEC’s Energy & Sustainability Services Division, emphasizing energy efficiency, sustainability, and building performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering, Physics or Architecture
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in energy modeling/analysis
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) accreditation is highly desirable either upon joining or planned in the near future
- Minimum of three years experience in a consulting environment, in energy analysis for US-based projects
- Thorough knowledge and experience with the New York State and NY City Energy Code
- Knowledge of Passive House International (PHI) and/or Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) certification systems and relevant tools (PHPP, WUFI Passive, etc) is desirable
- Thorough knowledge of the HERS Index Home Energy Rating System is desirable
- Strong verbal communication and writing skills
- Proven project management skills
- Proven ability to engage well with external stakeholders (e.g. clients and design partners)
- Thorough knowledge of energy efficiency in large and complex buildings
- Thorough knowledge of energy modeling software, DOE 2.2 or Energy Plus; primary knowledge of IES acceptable with DOE 2.2
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; Basic AutoCAD and Revit skills
- Programming knowledge is a plus
- Experience with THERM, WUFI and CFD software is beneficial
- Ability to develop and write reports detailing building components and energy efficiency measures
