Job Summary
Administer, plan, and direct special projects and services for the Water Production Bureau, including scheduling plant operations, supervising staff, and managing budgets. Coordinate maintenance, repair, and installation of pumps, valves, electrical systems, and SCADA equipment while ensuring a safe working environment. Inspect facilities for malfunctions, prepare specifications for equipment modifications, and oversee contractor and vendor work on construction and service projects. Monitor water reports, maintain inventory, and conduct training for personnel operating complex mechanical and security systems. Drive vehicles to jobsites and respond to emergencies, while initiating disciplinary actions and participating in recruitment processes.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible work experience in public works and project management
- Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience with projects or staff
- Valid driver's license
- Safe driving record
- Willingness and ability to obtain National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS 100, 200, 300 & 400 and IS 700 and 800 Certification within 36 months of employment
- Willingness and ability to obtain Confined Space Entry Certification within 18 months of hire
- Willingness and ability to obtain Forklift Truck Operator's Certification within 18 months of hire
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Division Chief, division employees from other divisions or departments, private companies, government officials, community organizations, and the public
- Knowledge of methods, practices and principles of the operation, maintenance, repair and upgrade of pumps, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, electronic systems, and process controllers
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA and IDOL standards and precautions
- Knowledge of modern supervisory principles including program planning, scheduling, coordination and public relations
- Ability to plan and coordinate the work of multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously
- Ability to schedule, assign, and direct the work of coworkers, either personally or through lead workers
- Ability to deal with the public in a friendly, courteous, and pleasant manner, and with customer service orientation
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Knowledge and use of personal computers including word processing and spreadsheet software
- Knowledge and use of maintenance management software and GIS
- Willingness and ability to undergo and pass annual medical surveillance to comply with OSHA respiratory requirements
- Must remain appropriately shaven in order to safely use a Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
- Must complete OSHA 10-hour Construction Course within 36 months of hire
Desired Qualifications
- Class A Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Water Operator's certification at time of hire
- Willingness to obtain Class A Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Water Operator's certification within 48 months of hire
- Obtaining the CEU's necessary to always maintain Water Operator's certification
